History
Breeder Karen Sausman created the Serengeti in 1994 by crossing Oriental Shorthairs with Bengals. Sausman believed that the genetic diversity of today's Bengals contained an ideal mix of domestic and wild genes and that combined wih the Oriental Shorthair would produce a unique domestic cat.

General Description
Serengeti are large and strong with long legs and bear an overall resemblance to wild cats, notably the Serval, but unlike the Savannah, they have not been bred using any wild cats.

Colors
Preferrred colors mimic the coats of wild cats

Ground colors of clear yellow to gold, cold gray or silver with a pattern of distinct black spots. Eyes are gold to amber or green

Coat
Markings include eyespots on the backs of ears, overall spotting and ringed tails.

Notable Features
Overall appearance of a wild cat, highlighted by large erect ears, long necks and substantial muscle and bone.

Health and Care
Thanks to their shorthaired ancestors, Serengeti need no specific grooming and need to be bathed only when necessary. They have playful outgoing natures and make good family pets.
