History
California breeder Paul Casey wanted to create a wild looking cat without an ounce of wild blood. He using a broad range of pedigreed cats an non-pedigreed cats from Asia and Cairo. His specific goal was a cat with the spotted appearance of cheetahs and other wild cats. By the early 1970s he'd succeeded, and that might have been where the story ended, but Casey created another first in the following decade. In 1986 he'launched' the cat through a department store catalog and other breeders were outraged. Once the dust settled, the breed continued to slowly grow, but it has not gained widespread recognition in the U.S. or overseas.

General Description
This cat is a muscular breed with a long and lean body and a deceptively heavy weight thanks to the muscle mass. The round head mimics that of many wild cats. The dense double coat is'spangled', which means spotted in the world of birds and is uniquely applied to this cat. Californians have spotting over their back and sides and striping between the ears and down the neck to the shoulders. Spots are joined together in rosettes, a trait found on ocelots and jaguars.

Ears are upright with rounded tips and sit far back on the head. Eyes are oval and slightly slanted.
