Four happy dogs — a Longhaired Dachshund, a PooPom, a Smooth Coat Dachshund and a Shiba Inu — inspired an entrepreneur (their owner Marty) to start a Telephone Pet Referral Service in 1988. Located in Sonoma, California, Breeder's Directory was the business name. In 1989 a local Burmese Kitten Breeder who advertised in the Directory (and only paid when a kitten sold) asked Marty to care for his kittens occasionally. Marty was a dog man, but business was business. He began enjoying his cat visits and fell in love with the sable colored kittens. It wasn't until 1996 that Marty traded advertising for a kitten. He drove to a Breeder's Devon Rex Cattery in Oregon. He selected a 7 week old baby, named him Bumper for the lump on his tiny head, and took him home. Bumper was an energetic and lovable Devon Rex and Marty has been a cat lover ever since. When Marty moved to Tucson, Az. in 2004, there were stray cats in his neighborhood. Within a year, Marty had spayed / neutered 12 stray cats and kittens he fed, helped nurture 4 litters and found homes for half of them. He currently (2010) feeds (and cleans up after!) 8 outdoor (2 are new strays that need fixing). His 2 indoor cats and kittens, Goodie and Baby, have access to a 5'x7' outdoor enclosure with 2 cat trees and litter box that Marty designed and created especially for them to enjoy the Arizona sunshine whenever they wish. Marty loves his kittens and cats!

Cat Breed Source is Dedicated to Bumper who was full of energy and affection for 6 years before he went to play on God's lap.
